Insight Assistant

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job title: Insight Assistant

Hours: Variable up to 15 hours a week

Pay: £13.84 per hour

Location: Cavendish (with potential to work at other central campuses and from home)

Contract: September 2026- August 2027

Closing date: 1st June 2026

Please only apply if you are going to be a student for the academic year commencing September 2026. You will only be able to hold one UWSU part-time staff role during the academic year so please do not apply for multiple roles. If we feel, when you are interviewing/assessing, you will be suitable for another role we will flag this.

Job purpose:

To support the Strategic Insight Coordinator in planning, gathering, analysing and reporting on student-focussed research projects, such as Spill the Beans, to ensure the Union meets the needs of its members.

If you’re interested in becoming a Sabbatical Officer or are an Academic rep, or want to work within Research and Insight, or UX in the future, we recommend you apply for this role.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Strategic Insight Coordinator across various student-focussed research projects
  • Qualitative and quantitative data analysis (typically in Excel and/or SmartSurvey)
  • Assisting with the fieldwork and analysis of various student-focussed research projects
  • Preparing and interpreting research results (both qual and quant data) for the purpose of report writing
  • Supporting with report writing and making presentations about our research (in Word and PowerPoint)
  • Offering administrative support for our projects
  • Supporting teams within the Students’ Union with insight work where needed

About the role:

We are recruiting an Insight Assistant to work at Westminster Students’ Union. You will be mainly based on one campus (Cavendish), with the option of some remote working once you are settled into the role. There may also be a need to work across the other campuses at times, for example to undertake training or work on a project.

You will not be expected to work evenings, weekends, or University holidays, apart from occasional early evening work if we are conducting research after the usual office hours.

The role itself is a professional role that gives you real-world experience of working within Research and Insight. The work of an Insight Assistant directly contributes to the understanding of student challenges and experiences within the Union. This education then helps teams within Westminster Student’s Union make change for students based on what they’ve shared in our research projects. The role is thought intensive and requires focus from the successful candidate.

What is in it for me?

  • 1:1 guidance into the world of consumer research with the Strategic Insight Coordinator
  • Truly flexible working - you’ll never be asked to work over a lecture.

  • Experience working in a varied and fast-paced environment
  • A fun working environment and great culture
