Job title: Retail Team Leader – Harrow Shop
Hours: 12 Hours
Pay: £13.61
Location: Harrow Campus (with occasional work at other campuses)
Contract: September 2025- July 2026

Job purpose:
We are recruiting for a Retail Team Leader at the Harrow Shop, where you will be the face of the store and an expert on our products. Your role is to create a welcoming atmosphere, assist customers efficiently, and ensure the shop runs smoothly
You will play a key leadership role, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, managing stock, supporting your team, and delivering outstanding customer service.
As a fast-paced retail environment, the Harrow Shop requires strong attention to detail, organisation, and teamwork. You will handle fresh food stock, oversee deliveries, and ensure products meet health and safety standards.
The role is based at the Harrow Campus, and you may be required to work Monday-Friday (08:30 – 18:30), with occasional weekend shifts when needed.
Key responsibilities:
Customer Service & Retail Operations:
- Deliver exceptional customer service, creating a welcoming shopping experience.
- Assist customers with queries about fresh food, merchandise, and general products.
- Handle transactions at the till, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and visually appealing shop environment.
Stock Management & Fresh Food Handling:
- Receive and check deliveries, ensuring all stock is accounted for.
- Handle fresh food stock, ensuring products are stored correctly and rotated for freshness.
- Monitor use-by dates and food safety standards, disposing of expired items appropriately.
- Organise and replenish stock efficiently and methodically to avoid wastage.
- Ensure correct labelling and pricing of all fresh food and merchandise.
- Conduct daily stock checks and report shortages or discrepancies.
Manual Handling & Shop Maintenance:
- Lift, carry, and safely move stock from deliveries to shelves.
- Use correct manual handling techniques.
- Maintain high levels of cleanliness and hygiene, particularly in food storage areas.
Leadership & Team Management:
- Work 12 hours per week across at least 3 days.
- Provide on-the-job support and leadership to team members.
- Be the first point of contact for the team during shifts.
- Assign weekly tasks, ensuring responsibilities are shared fairly.
- Monitor staff performance, offering guidance and feedback.
- Handle any customer or operational issues during shifts.
Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities:
- Assist with admin support for full-time Students’ Union staff.
- Ensure all paperwork, checklists, and reports are completed accurately.
- Follow health & safety guidelines, particularly for fresh food handling.
- Securely handle stock, and till transactions.
